Emergency plumbing in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal

The Plateau means the triplex with the outside staircase and the low basement, most of them built between 1900 and 1930. The main shut-off is often tucked into a narrow basement corner, sometimes shared by all three units, which makes it hard to reach when the ground-floor tenant isn't home. A lot of the drain stacks are still original cast iron, with laneway tree roots and decades of internal corrosion narrowing what's left of the pipe.

Access is the real challenge here: narrow lanes, hard street parking, and spiral staircases that limit what can go down to the basement. A backup in a Plateau triplex usually hits all three units at once, which adds coordinating with the other tenants or the landlord on top of the emergency itself.

All services

Burst pipe and active water damage

Water running from a wall, a ceiling, or straight out of a split pipe: we get the water shut off and the damage contained before the basement floods.

Sewer backup

Water or sewage backing up through the basement floor drain during or after heavy rain: the first move is to stop sending anything else down the pipes.

Blocked toilet or drain

An overflowing toilet, a kitchen or shower drain that's completely stopped: fast clearing so it doesn't happen again an hour later.

Leaking water heater or no hot water

Water pooling at the base of the water heater, or not a drop of hot water left anywhere in the house: we shut it down, isolate it, and work out whether it can be repaired or needs replacing.
